Best Cordless Dog Clippers – Detailed Reviews

Whether you are a professional groomer or trying to solve a problem with your dog’s hair at home, you need to get the best clipper possible. Cordless dog clippers can be handy in many situations, but you need to pay attention to the excellent quality.

I selected the following options with careful research based on various criteria.

1. Wahl Bravura Professional Cordless Dog Clipper – Overall Best

The Wahl Bravura topped my list mainly due to its quality, durability, and powerful, reliable engine.

Key features:

  • Blade type: 5-in-1 adjustable (#9, #10, #15, #30, #40)

  • Colors: Pink, Berry, Gunmetal, Purple, Turquoise

  • Run time: 90 minutes

  • Charge time: 60 minutes

  • Best for: Light and medium grooming, finishing, small and medium breeds

  • Speed: Single speed, 5500 SPM

  • Weight: 8.8 oz.

  • Comes with: 6 attachment combs, blade cleaning brush, oil, charger, charge stand, case, instruction

The 5-in-1 adjustable blade makes several blade sizes available (9, 10, 15, 30, 40). Think about it; it’s like you get five blades for a product. This is a convenient solution, not to mention that several cut types can be solved with this tool.

The choice of colors is extensive. Among the five trendy colors, you are guaranteed to find one that suits your taste.

The single-speed motor is very powerful and fast. The 5500 SPM is one of the largest that exists in this category. So you don’t have to worry that this clipper might not cut through your dog’s fur.

A lot of cordless clipper doesn’t work while plugged in. This can be pretty negative because you have to rely entirely on upon run time in such cases.

There is no such problem with Wahl Bravura. A 90-minute run time is enough for even several grooming sessions, but if you accidentally run it down, just plug it in.

Otherwise, the charging time is only 60 minutes, which is very short and positive. I guess you don’t like to wait until your grooming tools are working again.

The Wahl Bravura is relatively lightweight (8.8 oz.) And has a sleek design. This kind of design is essential to me because I don’t like long, tiring grooming tasks while keeping a bulky dog grooming clipper for a long time.

The package contains everything you will need. The 6 attachment combs allow for additional coat lengths, and you also get a helpful accessory like a blade brush and blade oil. This makes it easy to care for the blade, contributing to its longevity.

Wahl Bravura’s motor delivers very powerful performance and can even be ideal for thick coats. However, I recommend this version for light clippings, finishing, small and medium breed fur coats.

Also, it’s not an ideal choice for many because of the single-speed motor. This is because it is better to switch to a slower SPM stage for more sensitive areas.

Still, this cordless clipper is the best on the market for me, plus it’s all at an affordable price.

Pros

  • Reliable, fast, and durable motor
  • Great run time and charge time ratio
  • Vast color range
  • Works while plugged in
  • Light and sleek design

Cons

  • The single-speed motor is not suitable for everyone
  • Ideal for thick coats, but better for light grooming

Pet Worshiper Rating: 9.7

2. Wahl Arco Cordless Dog Clipper – Runner Up

The Wahl Arco has similar positive features as Bravura but is more affordable. The speed of his motor is similar, but its strength lags behind the overall best member of my list.

Key features:

  • Blade type: 5-in-1 adjustable (#9, #10, #15, #30, #40)

  • Colors: Hot Pink, Teal, Champagne, Purple, Green Apple

  • Run time: 80 minutes

  • Charge time: 75 minutes

  • Best for: Light and medium grooming, finishing, small and medium breeds

  • Speed: Single speed, 5500 SPM

  • Weight: 7.9 oz.

  • Comes with: 2 rechargeable battery packs, 4 attachment combs, blade cleaning brush, oil, charger, charge stand, case, instruction

The Wahl-specific 5-in-1 blade can also be found here, providing a wide range of options for cutting various coat lengths.

Plus, additional sizes will be available with high-quality attachment combs. However, only four combs are available for this product.

The run time to charge time ratio is also slightly worse than that of the Bravura. You must charge Wahl Arco for 75 minutes before using it for 80 minutes. Of course, this is also plenty enough for some grooming tasks.

I especially like this dog clipper because it comes with two rechargeable batteries. That way, the above numbers don’t sound bad anymore.

If one of the batteries is low, you can use the other while charging. This can save you a lot of time in the long run, and you don’t have to take unnecessary breaks during grooming sessions.

The motor of this clipper is high-speed (5500 SPM), but the manufacturer only recommends it for smaller tasks on small dogs. Examples are the face, legs, muzzle, ears, light grooming, touch-ups, etc.

So if you have a large breed or are dealing with a very matted coat, this will probably not be the best model for you. Also, the quality is not nearly as durable as the Bravura.

However, if you have a small dog and are looking for a reliable cordless clipper with an excellent refill, 5-in-1 blade at an affordable price, Wahl Arco is the perfect solution for you.

Pros

  • Fast motor
  • More affordable than Bravura
  • Two rechargeable batteries
  • Great for small and medium breeds
  • Comes with a 5-in-1 blade and attachment combs

Cons

  • Not suitable for large breeds and thick fur
  • Not as durable

Pet Worshiper Rating: 9.2

3. Wahl Motion Animal Clipper – Premium Option

The third option on my list, the Wahl Motion clipper, offers a proper premium solution for both home and professional groomers.

Key features:

  • Blade type: 5-in-1 adjustable (#9, #10, #15, #30, #40)

  • Colors: Black & Silver

  • Run time: 90 minutes

  • Charge time: 45 minutes

  • Best for: Light and medium grooming, finishing, small and medium breeds

  • Speed: Single speed, 5500 SPM

  • Weight: 9.4 oz.

  • Comes with: 6 attachment combs, blade cleaning brush, oil, charger, charge stand, case, instruction

The power and speed of the clipper motor (5500 SPM) and the sizes available with the adjustable blade (# 9, # 10, # 15, # 30, and # 40) are similar to the previous options.

But what makes this tool really special is the design and some handy features. In addition to the sleek shape, the removable scissor-like grip provides not only comfort but maximum control.

That is, you can be sure that you will not drop this clipper, for example, and your hands will not get tired during long grooming sessions. Believe me; you also don’t want this serious investment to fall to the ground.

I have also found that gripping this tool is quite comfortable and safe.

An LED light on the housing acts as an indicator of the battery charge level. The result is an added sense of security, as you’ll know exactly if you can start the next grooming task.

However, you don’t have to worry even if the LED indicator shows a low charge. The Wahl Motion clipper fully charges in 45 minutes and can then be used for 90 minutes.

Fast upload and extended run time… The 45/90 ratio is quite good in this category.

And the best tasks for the Wahl Motion Cordless clipper? The motor is quite strong and reliable but ideal for small and medium-sized breeds.

If your goal is regular touch-ups, finishes, ears, muzzle, feet, face, etc., this is also one of the best clippers you can buy.

For thicker, heavier matted coats, you might want to check out the other options on my list.

Well, this option has impeccable quality, useful features, and a fantastic design that gives users extra comfort when grooming.

It all comes with a not-too-affordable price, but don’t worry. With the Wahl Motion Cordless dog clipper, you are guaranteed to get what you pay for.

Pros

  • Awesome design
  • Great charge time-run time ratio
  • Extra comfort and safety with the scissors-like grip
  • Fast and reliable motor
  • Adjustable high-quality blade

Cons

  • Not the best for thick coats
  • Pricey (but you get what you pay for)

Pet Worshiper Rating: 9.6

4. Wahl Lithium Ion Pro Series – Best Budget Option

Believe me; I know what it’s like when someone has a low budget. Keeping a dog can be costly anyway, which is why many people want an affordable yet reliable grooming tool. The Wahl Lithium Ion Pro Series is just that.

Key features:

  • Blade type: 1 standard size blade

  • Colors: Black & Silver

  • Run time: 120 minutes

  • Charge time: 60 minutes

  • Best for: Full grooming, all sizes of breeds

  • Speed: Single speed

  • Weight: 25.6 oz.

  • Comes with: 4 attachment combs, scissors, blade cleaning brush, oil, charger, cord, case, instruction

This member of my list is perfect for full-body clipping for all kinds of breeds. Although the self-sharpening blade is not adjustable, several sizes are available, thanks to the additional guide combs.

In addition, the package comes with scissors, a blade brush, blade oil, which is all that is needed for blade maintenance. You can see that everything is there for you to use this product for a long time.

The ratio of recharge time to run time is ideal. The battery is fully charged in 60 minutes, after which you can use the clipper for 120 minutes. So you can actually do a variety of grooming tasks with a single upload.

The product may be a little bulky, heavy, and loud for some. Also, contrary to what the company claims, it cannot cope with all types of coats. I would recommend a better-performing grooming tool for a really thick matted fur.

But in my opinion, it’s an impressive value-for-money clipper.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Many accessories come in the package
  • Great charge time-run time ratio
  • Suitable for all kinds of grooming tasks

Cons

  • Bulky and heavy
  • Louder than advertised
  • Not the best for really thick fur

Pet Worshiper Rating: 8.7

5. Wahl Professional Animal BravMini – Best Cool lightweight design Cordless dog clipper

If it is crucial for you not to get tired during your grooming session, Wahl Professional Animal BravMini is your choice. This is the clipper that combines high quality with a sleek design and is lightweight.

Key features:

  • Blade type: 1 standard size blade

  • Colors: Purple

  • Run time: 100 minutes

  • Charge time: 120 minutes

  • Best for: Regular grooming, finishing touch-ups, small and medium breeds

  • Speed: Single speed, 5350 SPM

  • Weight: 4.5 oz.

  • Comes with: 1 attachment comb, blade cleaning brush, oil, charger, cord, instruction

Thanks to its 4.5 oz weight and comfortable grip, it will be enjoyable for you to cut the coat of your pup.

The 5350 SPM speed motor reliably handles the hair of small and medium-breed dogs and is excellent for regular tasks like touch-ups, finishes, ears, muzzle, legs, etc.

Also, the product’s sound is very quiet, which is favorable for restless dogs. So if grooming is a nightmare for you because your dog is terrified of the vibration of the clippers, be sure to consider the Wahl Professional Animal BravMini.

However, in addition to the above advantages, there are also disadvantages to this product.

Although the run time is quite impressive (120 minutes), you can achieve it in 100 minutes of charge time. However, this should not be a problem if you have time to charge the battery fully.

Also, the only standard size blade comes with only one attachment comb. So it would be best if you got extra combs for the different coat lengths.

Pros

  • Cool sleek and lightweight design
  • Quiet
  • Reliable and fast motor
  • Impressive run time
  • Perfect for regular grooming tasks

Cons

  • Long charge time
  • Not suitable for thicker coats
  • You need additional combs for different coat lengths

6. Andis Pulse Zr II 5-Speed Detachable Blade Dog Clipper – Longest Run Time

Do you like long grooming sessions? Are you a professional groomer who cares about extra-long run time? Or do you just sometimes forget to recharge your clipper? In these cases, the Andis Pulse Zr II 5-Speed Dog Clipper is the perfect choice for you.

Key features:

  • Blade type: Detachable #10 CeramicEdge Blade

  • Colors: Black, Purple Galaxy

  • Run time: 180 minutes

  • Charge time: 120 minutes

  • Best for: All types of grooming and coats

  • Speed: 5-speed, 2500-4500 SPM

  • Weight: 17.6 oz.

  • Comes with: blade oil, charger, charge stand, instruction

You must charge the product’s battery for 120 minutes, but after then you can use it for 180 minutes. This means a lot of tasks, and you can even get rid of the fur of several dogs with a single charge.

Anyway, the product can also work while plugged in, so if you have a power outlet nearby, you absolutely don’t have to worry about time.

The clipper comes with a detachable #10 CeramicEdge blade. This type of blade is highly reliable and provides slower heating. This way, you need to take a break less often, and you can more easily avoid getting your dog in trouble because of the warm blade.

The 5-speed motor of the Andis Pulse Zr II allows you to apply this clipper to all coat types. Lower speed levels are excellent for more sensitive areas or lighter coats. So this grooming tool comes in handy when dealing with multiple types of fur.

However, you should be aware that premium features come at a price. But believe me, even with this product, you get exactly what you pay for.

Pros

  • Extra-long run time
  • Works while plugged-in
  • Reliable detachable CeramicEdge blade
  • Multi-speed motor
  • Perfect for all kinds of grooming tasks

Cons

  • Pricey (but worth the cost)

Pet Worshiper Rating: 9.7

7. Oster Volt Cordless Pet Clipper – Best For Thick Coats

The Oster Volt isn’t the cheapest on my list, but if you’re looking for a cordless clipper for your dog’s matted fur, this should be what you consider.

Key features:

  • Blade type: Detachable #10 CryogenX Blade

  • Colors: White

  • Run time: 120 minutes

  • Charge time: 60 minutes

  • Best for: Thick or matted coats

  • Speed: Single speed, 2400 SPM

  • Weight: 15 oz.

  • Comes with: blade brush, blade oil, charger, charge stand, instruction

The single-speed rotary motor is capable of 2400 SPM. That’s not a big deal, but believe me, you don’t need more than that to handle any coat.

The size 10 CriogenX blade is detachable, but you must purchase blades separately for different sizes. This comes at an additional cost, but fortunately, the Oster Volt is compatible with all A5 blades.

The ratio of charging time to run time is quite good here; you must charge the product for 60 minutes to use it for 120 minutes. That’s a reasonable amount of time, and during that time, you can get rid of the difficult-to-handle fur of many dogs.

As I mentioned, the Oster Volt is not cheap. Another downside is that it can be a bit loud compared to other options. However, due to the quality and durability of the clipper and the brand’s reliability, I think it is worth investing so much money.

Pros

  • Perfect for heavy coats
  • Great run time
  • High-quality detachable blade
  • Durable construction

Cons

  • Pricey (but worth it)
  • A bit loud

Pet Worshiper Rating: 9.6

8. Wahl Creativa Professional Animal Cordless Dog Clipper – Quiet Option

If it is important to you (i.e., more for your pup) that a clipper be quiet, you may want to get Wahl Creativa. This option has a low noise level despite its high-quality engine. That way, you don’t have to worry about your pooch getting upset during another grooming procedure.

Key features:

  • Blade type: 5-in-1 adjustable (#9, #10, #15, #30, #40)

  • Colors: Black, Berry

  • Run time: 120 minutes

  • Charge time: 75 minutes

  • Best for: Light grooming, finishing, regular touch-ups

  • Speed: Single speed, 5300 SPM

  • Weight: 9.9 oz.

  • Comes with: two rechargeable battery packs, four attachment combs, blade brush, blade oil, charger, charge stand, cord, instruction

But the low noise level is not the only reason this clipper is on my list.

In addition to the familiar 5-in-1 Wahl adjustable blade, reliable speed control ensures that the product’s engine can perform any task.

More power is needed on the more challenging parts, which this tool ideally provides. So whether you have a Labrador or a Yorkie, Wahl Creativa will be a smart choice for you.

This product is not lacking in terms of run time. 120 minutes is perfectly enough to treat the coat of even more dogs. And thanks to the additional battery pack, you can resume grooming immediately after running out.

Despite the above advantages, the clipper also has some drawbacks. Low noise seems to come with low power.

Contrary to the manufacturer’s claim, it’s not the best for thick heavy coats. In addition, experience has shown that the battery discharges sooner after many uses. Fortunately, additional batteries are available separately.

Pros

  • Low noise level
  • High run time
  • Additional battery pack
  • Speed control

Cons

  • Speed control
  • Battery life is shortened after a while

Pet Worshiper Rating: 9.3

What are cordless dog clippers?

The best dog clippers offer the opportunity even to do your pup grooming session at home.

This way, you can save a lot of money, strengthen your bonding, and you won’t have to deal with unnecessary time management.

If you’ve been researching the market for a while to find the right grooming tool, you’ve probably noticed that there are two types of dog grooming clippers; corded and cordless.

As their name suggests, corded clippers get their energy from a long cord. This is a safe and effective method, but it somewhat hinders mobility.

However, with some practice, corded clippers are perfect for use, and professional groomers also prefer to use them.

Cordless dog clippers have rechargeable batteries so they can be pretty attractive options for novice and intermediate dog owners.

These clippers have many advantages and disadvantages, which I will detail in the following sections.

What are the benefits of using rechargeable cordless dog clippers?

Different situations require different grooming tools. Clippers with rechargeable batteries work great and have some advantages over corded versions.

Portability

With a cordless clipper, you don’t have to pay attention to whether an outlet is nearby. Therefore, you can use it essentially anywhere, anytime, which in many cases means a lot of conveniences.

Grooming outside

Thanks to portability, you can also do the grooming session outdoors. Not only is this an excellent experience, but it results in less mess and easier clean-up.

Less complication

With cordless clippers, you don’t have to worry about the cord getting stuck in something or knocking down a tool with it. You just turn the clipper on, and you can take it to your dog carefree.

Mobility

The cord can prevent you from having easy access to the more problematic parts of your dog, such as the abdomen or hind legs. Well, with cordless clippers, you don’t have to worry about that.

Not that scary for dogs

Some dogs can be scared by the sight of a swinging cord. It is also a fact that most corded clippers are louder. So I mostly recommend cordless clippers for owners who have nervous dogs.

Grooming on wet hair

Corded clippers are not recommended for use in humid environments. There is no such problem if you purchase a cordless version. You can even trim the fur of your pup even immediately after bathing.

Are there any cons of cordless pet clippers?

Despite the many advantages, cordless dog clippers also have disadvantages. Of course, these are not aspects that should make you give up on these products, but you should definitely be aware of them.

You need to pay attention to recharging

You need to know the exact running time of the product you choose. After all, it’s not nice if your clipper runs out during the grooming procedure. While most cordless dog clipper works even when plugged in, you can’t enjoy the benefits of cordlessness.

Not as powerful

While there are more powerful versions, you have to accept the fact that cordless dog clippers do not offer the same performance as corded versions. This is especially true if you choose a cheaper alternative.

For dog owners who value a strong motor, I tend to recommend corded clippers.

What should you look for when choosing the best cordless pet clipper?

what to consider when choosing a cordless dog clipper

After weighing the above pros vs. cons, did you decide you really want a rechargeable clipper? In this case, let’s see what aspects you should consider when choosing.

Choosing a reliable brand

Whichever dog clipper you choose, you are facing a serious investment. Premium brands are popular not only for marketing; they make really high-quality grooming tools.

Such reputable companies include Andis, Wahl, and Oster. They have been on the market for a long time, and you can be sure that their name is the same as the warranty.

Not to mention that they also give a guarantee to their clippers in many cases.

Battery life and charge time

Cordless versions run on battery power. That’s why it matters how long you can use your clipper and how long it can fully charge.

Manufacturers usually indicate this information so you can easily choose the product you like. Choose a clipper with a low charge time and an operating time of at least one hour.

You will need this amount of time for an entire grooming session, especially if you have a large dog. It can be pretty uncomfortable if the tool stops during the procedure.

Some products may have extra features. Examples are quick-charge, charge indicator, or multiple battery packs. If you want to be really sure, choose a dog clipper that also works when plugged in.

Noise

Dogs have much more sensitive ears than humans. Because of this, the vibrations of the clippers can be highly annoying to them.

Fortunately, most manufacturers are aware of this and produce increasingly efficient grooming clippers with lower noise levels

However, be sure to choose a quiet product if your dog becomes restless from the vibration of the clipper.

If the company clearly states that the grooming clippers it manufactures are quiet, that’s a good sign. It would help if you also read online reviews.

In my article, you’ll find products with sound levels that are right for even anxious dogs.

Speed

The speed of clippers is usually indicated by strokes per minute (SPM). It can be said that the stronger the motor, the higher the speed achieved.

What SPM you need to aim for depends mainly on your dog’s coat. A lower SPM is sufficient for lighter coats, while for a really thick coat, you need to choose a more robust and faster motor.

I have to mention the issue of single-speed vs. multiple-speed. Two-speed or even more speed models are standard among professional clippers.

It’s worth switching between levels. A lower SPM is more suitable for more sensitive areas (e.g., ears, face, abdomen), while a higher SPM is ideal for other body parts.

Single-speed clippers are great for regular touch-ups and light grooming sessions.

In all other cases, I recommend the multi-speed versions. This is especially true if you have multiple dogs with various coat types at home.

Adjustable blades, detachable blades, attachment combs

There are dog clippers with adjustable blades, but detachable blade tools are also common.

For the latter, you may want to purchase additional blades, for which the appropriate dog clipper blade size chart can be of great help.

If none of the available sizes are suitable, attachment combs offer an additional solution. You can also find instructions on these accessories in my blade size article.

Heat

With dog clippers, friction is inevitable, which certainly involves heat. In general, the higher the SPM, the hotter the blade will be from the same amount of use.

You should avoid excessive heat that can even cause clipper burns to dogs

Of course, this does not mean that you should always choose a lower speed level. After all, a minimum of 4000 SPM is essential for certain coat types.

However, there are steps you can take to avoid burns. An example is the regular oiling of the blades. This reduces friction and the heat generated.

Manufacturers usually clearly describe how and at what intervals their blades should be oiled in the user manual.

Another thing you can do is take a break at certain intervals during the grooming session to allow the blade to cool. The third method is to choose the right blade type.

Alternatively, you can purchase additional pieces of your preferred size to ensure a smooth replacement when the blade heats up.

Blade type

If the goal is to select the clipper blades, steel and ceramic blades may be considered.

The steel blade is a better conductor and therefore heats up sooner. The ceramic material stays cool longer but loses its sharpness faster.

Some manufacturers undertake to sharpen the blades, but you can try sharpening yourself if you are a DIY person.

Your dog’s coat type

Different dog coats require various grooming tools. For example, if your dog has a heavy coat, a heavy-duty clipper is essential

However, if your dog has soft hair, a lower performance product is also appropriate. For example, dog clippers for Yorkies don’t have extremely high SPMs.

Single-layer coats don’t require a lot of power, and you can even save money with a more standard kit.

Design, grip, weight

One of the primary reasons people choose cordless dog clippers is convenience. And this should also reflect the design of the product.

During a grooming session, the dog clipper must fit perfectly in your hand. This is especially true if your pup is very playful or agitated. Choose a dog clipper with a lightweight, sleek design that is confident to grip.

Safety tips and steps for using your cordless dog clipper

Below are steps you can take to make your entire grooming procedure more effective.

Before the grooming

So, did you choose the most suitable cordless clipper? Great! However, it would be best to properly prepare your dog before starting the entire grooming session.

This includes bathing, rinsing, drying, combing, doing something with tangles and mats. In fact, you may still find additional dirt and debris from which you need to get rid of your dog’s fur.

Grooming in the right direction

I usually recommend trimming your dog in the same direction as the fur grows for beginner groomers. This is especially true if you are dealing with a blade size of 10 or larger.

Professional groomers often go against the grain for certain coat types, giving them a more even cut.

Only one side at a time

Do not randomly trim the hair on your dog. Select one side, finish it, and only then move on to the other side. This makes the whole task easier for both of you. Your dog will be less anxious.

Gentle

Please do not press the clipper too hard on your dog’s skin, as it may cause cuts and other injuries. If you buy your product from an absolutely trusted brand, the blades will cut your dog’s fur without a problem.

Slow movements

The whole trimming can be much more effective with loose and slow movements. This way, on the one hand, you will be less intimidating to your dog. On the other hand, uneven cuts can be avoided by avoiding sudden movements.

Start with the right body parts

If you start grooming at the neck and from there to the tail, your dog will be much more cooperative.

Manage the heat

Please notice if the clipper blade starts to heat up. Use the techniques mentioned earlier (oiling, choosing a ceramic blade, taking short breaks, changing blades) to make sure you prevent injuries to your dog.

Final Verdict

A cordless clipper can be a convenient solution for many life situations. However, as you may have seen, the range is extensive, and the best choice should be reliable.

You already know my favorite: Although Wahl Bravura is not perfect for all coat types, it is still the ideal choice for regular clipping at home

With the high-quality rotary motor, you will be able to cut the fur of your pup for a long time, and thanks to the adjustable blade and attachment combs, a wide range of lengths will be available.

Hey, my name is Peter, and I am the owner of this site. I have loved animals since I was a kid. I am constantly training myself; I recently obtained an accredited certificate in pet nutrition. But I am constantly learning about training, grooming for dogs and cats. I am currently a happy owner of two dogs, six cats, and two red-eared sliders. My goal is to provide my visitors with the most authentic information possible on any pet-related topic.
