What are the best brushes for Goldendoodles?

The coat of the Goldendoodles is special. Because of this, it doesn’t matter at all what brush you buy. I’ll make your job a little easier now and describe which are the best brushes for Doodles. There will also be a comb on the list, which I recommend for proper regular grooming. At the end of the section, I will select my favorite brush and write it down. You can buy most of the products on Amazon and Chewy too. Be sure to check out where the price is more affordable.

SAFARI COMBO BRUSH

You can immediately see why this grooming tool will be a favorite of many.

This is a 2-in-1 brush, i.e. it serves dual purposes.

If you choose this product, you will not need a separate pin brush and bristle brush. The pin brush side helps remove mats and tangles. And the bristle brush side removes dirt, loose hair, and distributes natural oils.

It is easy to use and comfortable to grip. The result will be a shiny, clean, and healthy coat and skin. This is definitely one of the most ideal products for everyday brushing.

HERTZKO SELF-CLEANING SLICKER BRUSH

This brush is not only good for Goldendoodles. Plenty of other breed owners buy it because of its quality.

This is one of the best choices for Doodles with matted hair .

This brush penetrates the topcoat and reaches the bottom fur layer. Excellent for removing mats and tangles. Therefore, if you have a Goldendoodle with an undercoat, be sure to consider this tool. The pins do not scratch or cause irritation.

One of the most positive features of this Hertzko product is self-cleaning. When you press a button, all pins are retracted. This way you can easily take off your hair.

The handle is non-slip and extremely comfortable to grip. Overall, the product is extremely easy to use.

ANDIS PREMIUM SLICKER BRUSH

When it comes to pet grooming, Andis products are sure to come up as a possible choice.

ANDIS PREMIUM SLICKER BRUSH will not disappoint if you are looking for a brush for your Goldendoodle.

This product has a lot of good features. The handle is comfortable, soft, and non-slip. Therefore, your hands will get less tired while grooming. This is because it is very important that not only your puppy is having fun while brushing.

Fine wire pins make it easy to remove all dead and loose fur. It is also suitable for removing mats and tangles, but even dirt and debris.

You can use this slicker brush perfectly on medium and large dogs who have a thick coat. By the way, it works well with other dogs.

JW Pet Gripsoft Slicker Brush

JW Pet Gripsoft Slicker Brush is a very important member of my list.

This brush is especially good for dogs with sensitive skin.

The product has plenty of metal teeth in two different sizes. These remove the dead fur and loosen the mats.

The teeth are bent and parallel to the skin. This will prevent injury and irritation. Therefore, grooming will be a pleasant and safe experience for both of you. It’s no coincidence this is one of the best brushes on the market.

Andis Steel Pet Comb

The last member of my list is not a brush but a comb, but I didn’t want to miss it.

A comb is an important part of the Goldendoodle grooming kit at home.

With this steel comb, you can find hidden mats and tangles. In short, it is an excellent tool to finish your dog’s grooming properly.

The teeth of the comb are strong and effective. However, they are also soft enough not to cause any injury. If you have a dog with thick fur, the Andis Steel Pet Comb is also a must-have tool. In addition, the price is quite affordable.

My choice

All the brushes are premium quality on my list and each has many positive features. However, I chose the SAFARI COMBO BRUSH as the best brush for Goldendoodles. If you buy this tool, you will have a bristle brush and a pin brush in one product.

What to look for when choosing the best brush for Goldendoodles?

Whether you are an experienced groomer or not, you need to know that there are plenty of dog breeds with different coats and needs. Because of this, you may also need different grooming tools for different breeds. Below I will write about what to look for if you want to buy a brush for a Goldendoodle coat.

Handle and back material

Many high-quality brush handles are made of wood. This is because the wood absorbs the natural oils of the skin, thus distributing them through the coat. Of course, this does not mean that only wooden brushes are most desirable. But for a long time, these were considered the best for grooming. Nowadays, excellent brushes are also made of plastic.

Design

It is not just the material that is relevant to the selection. After all, you may want to buy a brush that is ergonomically designed. Because of this, it will definitely be comfortable for you. In my list, I have tried to select products that are comfortable to use and fit in my hand. Some brushes have a rubber handle, which makes gripping even more comfortable.

Durability

Another important aspect is durability. Clearly, a grooming tool should last a long time. Otherwise, it has to do with material and design, but durability is often only revealed during use. It is best to read product reviews online. From these, you can get useful information about whether a brush lasts a long time or not.

Comfortable

You may not find the best brush for your Goldendoodle at first. Yet, you should definitely try. The right brush should be comfortable for your dog’s skin and coat. However, it also needs to be effective, as the goal is to make your dog look good. Don’t be afraid that you may need to try a number of brushes before finding the one that works best for your puppy.

What types of brushes can you use for Goldendoodles?

Goldendoodles can have several types of coats. Based on these, three types of brushes can be considered for purchase. Depending on your puppy’s fur, you may want to get one or more of these.

Bristle brushes

On these brushes, the length of the bristles and the distance between them may vary. If your dog has long hair, I suggest a brush with long bristles, that are widely-spaced. Of course, the opposite is true for dogs with short coats.

If you have a coarse-haired dog, you should look for a stiff-bristled brush. While softer bristles are better for softer-haired dogs.

Goldendoodles with curly fur don’t need a bristle brush. Instead, they should buy a pin brush and a slicker brush. The former for grooming, the latter for detangling mats.

For wavy-haired dogs and Goldendoodle puppies, it is a good decision to buy a bristle brush. The best bristle brushes have not only nylon bristles, but boar bristles, for example.

Pin brushes

As their name suggests, these brushes have wire pins. The ends of the pins can be rubber-tipped. In this case, they damage the skin of the dogs less.

Pin brushes are a good choice for most Goldendoodles. This is because these brushes are great for grooming dogs with long, woolly, and curly hair. The best of these products have the right cushion and strong smooth pins.

As with most grooming tools, it is important that the handle is comfortable. After all, you’re going to use it, so it’s also important that your hands don’t get tired or injured.

Be careful not to scrape your dog’s skin with the brush. This is easier to avoid if the pins have tipped ends.

One of the most common flaws of lower quality pin brushes is that their pins shift into the cushion after a few uses. For this reason, strive for the right quality, because after that, the brush will no longer be really effective.

Slicker brushes

The slicker brushes are uniquely designed. They have a lot of wire pins in a cushion bed. These are the most useful grooming tools for removing tangles and mats. Pins are very flexible, but you need to be careful with them as they are easily irritating.

Other tools

Sometimes regular grooming and the tools mentioned above are not enough to get rid of mats and tangles. In such cases, you may want to consider a dematting tool and a comb. However, you have to be careful with these because they can be quite sharp (as far as you know, it’s their job to cut the mats). Using a detangling conditioner can also be beneficial. This is because it prevents your Goldenddodle’s coat from matting or tangling.

Tools for the Goldendoodles’ faces

Goldendoodle dogs have pretty special needs to face grooming. You will need a brush, comb, scissors, and electric clippers for this. The latter should have a one-inch comb attachment.

This video will help you on how to groom Goldendoodle dogs’ faces:

Some facts about your Goldendoodle’s coat

These dogs don’t really shed their fur. Still, you shouldn’t neglect their coat. Goldendoodles can have three different coat types.

One is wiry, thick, curly but short. This type of hair is when the dog’s more like a Poodle. This type of coat is worth keeping short because then it requires very little maintenance.

If the Goldendoodle comes more from a Golden Retriever parent, then his coat will be long and thick, and these dogs shed more. Getting the right grooming tools is essential.

There are Goldendoodles that have fleece coats with loose curls. These dogs are perfect for people with allergies.

Goldendoodles more from Poodles do not have an undercoat, but those from Golden Retriever do.

Some tips on grooming your Goldendoodle

You should choose the grooming steps correctly. Many say that if you bathe your Goldendoodle first, you can further worsen the tangles and mats. If you choose to brush first, the chances of creating new mats and tangles will increase as soon as the fur gets wet. Conditioners and detanglers developed for this purpose can be a solution to the problem. Here are some useful tips:

  1. Bathe your dog first. Let the conditioner work for a few minutes. Then rinse your Doodle’s fur very carefully. Improper rinsing can cause hairs to stick together. This makes the whole process extremely difficult. Wipe the fur with a towel, but not completely dry. This will loosen the tangles and make it easier to get rid of them. Brush your Goldendoodle before his hair is completely dry.

  2. Look for mats or tangles in your puppy’s fur with your fingers or a comb. If you find something like this, stop and don’t want to comb any further. The slicker brush will be suitable for this purpose.

  3. After the combing mentioned above, a slicker brush may come. With this tool, you can get rid of smaller mats and tangles. In addition, you can make your Doodle coat smooth and shiny. There are sensitive areas where you need to be very gentle. Examples are armpits, face, and feet. If necessary during grooming, you can also use scissors in these areas. You should use the slicker brush every day. However, pay attention to possible irritations.

  4. Goldendoodles are pretty easy to brush. Just follow the direction of hair growth.

  5. Finally, use a Greyhound comb to comb through your dog’s fur once more. This will allow you to find hidden tangles or mats that you haven’t found before. Then use a dryer to get rid of the remaining loose hair. Use the dryer set on cool. While drying, be sure to comb the fur to prevent the formation of new mats or tangles.
