But if you want to know more about this topic, just read on.

Repellents and deterrents can be very useful accessories in many situations in life. There are devices designed specifically for dogs. (Of course, they don’t just work on dogs). If you are wondering what ultrasonic dog repellents are, which ones are the best, and how to choose the best one, then this article is for you.

Let’s start!

What are ultrasonic dog repellents?

If dogs are properly trained, they behave very well. However, even the most docile dog can sometimes be aggressive. You may want to be prepared for these situations. There are plenty of solutions to the problem.

There are many types of dog deterrents and repellents available in the market. Repellents are chemical-based products that cause irritation. And deterrents are electromechanical products. Each version has its own advantages and disadvantages.

My article will be about the ultrasonic dog deterrents. These devices emit inaudible sounds to the human ear. The frequency range is about 25,000-30,000 Hz. This deters the dogs.

Benefits of ultrasonic dog deterrents

Obviously, you have some idea of what you should use these devices for. However, I have summarized some possible benefits below.

  • Stray dogs: You can meet Stray dogs anywhere. Whether you are walking in a park or jogging. This can probably be pretty scary. If you want to prepare for these situations, have an ultrasonic dog deterrent with you. Believe me, it can be very effective.

  • Effective but harmless: Of all the repellent or deterrent methods, this is one of the most effective and harmless. It’s loud enough to annoy and deter dogs, but it doesn’t cause hearing loss.

  • Training: Not only are these devices good for deterrence, but they are also good for training. You can use them for bark control, for example, or to establish good behaviors. Make sure that this is not your only training method.

  • Easy: These devices are convenient and easy to use. Their use does not require any special knowledge. Usually, a button has to be pressed on them. This simplicity can come in handy in an emergency.

  • Keeping alien animals away: Of course, you can’t just use these deterrents on dogs.

What are the best ultrasonic dog repellers?

Later there will be a buying guide to help you choose the best product. However, I have collected the best dog deterrents on the market. They will all be handheld.

APlus+ Handheld Dog Repellent

This device is one of my favorites from the list, which is why I put it in the first place.

It is small, light, easy to use, yet extremely effective. It works at the touch of a button and is great for teaching your dog with it.

Barking, chewing, digging. You can prevent all of this with this deterrent and its ultra-high sound. Of course, the sound of the device is not noticeable to you, and yet it can prevent many inconveniences.

The material is ABS plastic, which is very good quality, durable and comfortable. In addition, the product is powered by a 9-volt battery and includes an LED light.

You can use the APlus deterrent from a distance of about 20 feet, and even so, it is effective. It offers two modes. Train mode is a bit more bearable, and chase mode is especially useful in dangerous situations.

Pros

  • Durable and safe
  • Effective
  • LED light
  • 20 feet range
  • Two modes

Cons

  • Some owners say it doesn’t work for all dogs

Frienda LED Ultrasonic Dog Repeller

This is now an affordable member of my list. Still, it does its job perfectly. It works well with most dog breeds and cats.

You will find three setting options on it, as well as an LED light

In the first mode, only the LED is lit. In the second mode, in addition to the LED, the device emits high frequencies. This can be used for training. The third mode is similar to the previous one, but the pitch is much higher. It can be used against aggressive or barking dogs.

This device also operates on a 9-volt battery and can be used from a distance of about 20 feet. It is completely safe for both humans and animals.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • 20 feet range
  • Three modes
  • Safe
  • LED

Cons

  • Not as durable

Dog Dazer II Ultrasonic Dog Deterrent

This dog deterrent costs more than the other products on my list. However, it is much durable and of better quality.

It is made of premium plastic and is a very effective form of dog repellent.

Like the previous products, you can use this from a distance of 20 feet and it is perfectly harmless to dogs. With the help of the belt clip, you can easily take it with you for jogging, walking, or cycling. It also has a low battery light, so you can be prepared.

The deterrent works with a 9-volt battery. In addition to the advantages listed so far, it also has disadvantages. It has no LED light and only has one setting.

Pros

  • Great quality
  • Durable and safe
  • Effective
  • 20 feet range
  • Belt clip

Cons

  • No LED light
  • One setting

Sound Defense K9 Warning Device

If you are looking for a dog deterrent that is comfortable, effective, and durable, be sure to check this out.

Plenty of cyclists, hikers, and runners use this product, and not by accident.

The price for this is the highest on my list, but there’s a reason for that. It is made of impact-resistant and water-resistant ABS plastic. With the belt-clip, you can keep it with you very easily in any situation.

I especially like the design of the product. It looks like an air-horn. However, this deterrent offers a wide range and you don’t have to masterfully aim to make an impact with it. It can be used from a distance of up to 25 feet. The product emits audible sounds that immediately scare the dogs.

It runs on a 9-volt battery and the low battery indicator helps when it needs to be replaced. The only downside is that it is a little heavier than the other products on the list. However, the belt clip helps a lot in this.

Pros

  • Great design
  • High quality ABS plastic
  • Effective
  • 25 feet range
  • Low battery indicator
  • Belt clip

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Bulky

My pick

Basically, I am satisfied with all the products. My favorite, however, is APlus + Handheld Dog Repellent. In addition to its reasonable price, it provides excellent quality. Plus, LED light and two modes make it widely usable.

Types of ultrasonic dog deterrents

There are two versions of ultrasonic dog deterrents. One is handheld, the other is stationary. I will write about these below.

Handheld dog deterrents

This is a lightweight and practical version. It comes in very handy when you walk in the park, bike or hike. If you like night walks, you may want to choose a product that has LED lights. But there are also deterrents with other useful features.

Stationary Dog Deterrent

These devices are designed for outdoor use, in your yard. If your dog has a lot of “buddies” or your neighbor has a dog that barks a lot at night, these deterrents do a very good job. Remember that these products must be weather-proof and durable. There are stationary deterrents that work with solar power, although this is not the most important aspect.

Things to consider when choosing the best ultrasonic dog repeller

Based on what has been written so far, I think it is clear to you that such a dog deterrent can often be extremely useful. However, there are many variations on the market, so it can be difficult to choose the best one at first. I will share some tips with you below.

Design and build quality

Obviously, this is not the most important aspect. However, if you buy a deterrent for home use, it’s not bad if it fits your furniture. Some outdoor deterrents have quite a cool and beautiful design.

Quality is also important when choosing a product. By this I mean the material mainly. The best quality deterrents are made of sealed ABS plastic. In addition, a frequently used material is silicone (for buttons eg.).

Many products are waterproof, but if you don’t buy an outdoor deterrent, don’t leave it out in the rain.

Features

Although the operating principle of all ultrasonic dog deterrents is the same, some have special features. For example, there are devices that are for indoor use only and some are for outdoor use only. And there are some that can be used mixed. There are deterrents that have a handle. For example, you can hang them on the wall.

Another useful feature is the low battery indicator. In addition, there is an LED flashlight, which comes in handy in an emergency.

Sound range

Outdoor and indoor deterrents have a different sound range. 50-150 feet for the former and 12-25 feet for the latter. It is important to know these parameters depending on what you want to use your device for.

Different levels of sound and sensory

There are usually 2-3 levels of these in the devices. These are important to know because if your dog doesn’t respond to them, you will probably need to increase the intensity. Plus, with adjustable intensity, you can use a product both indoors and outdoors.

Battery

These devices are battery operated. It is important that they be of good quality and offer about 200 discharges. You can find out more about battery life in product reviews.

Size

Size is a very important consideration, but as with everything else, a lot depends on what your goal is. Small products are lightweight and portable. This makes it great for you to use them outdoors, such as while walking or jogging.

Warranty

For electrical devices, I always consider this to be a very important aspect. On the one hand, these products can easily go bust, but they may also not achieve the desired effect. In this case, it is not a disadvantage if the product comes with a warranty.

With these considerations, you can be sure that you will choose the right deterrent for your needs.

How to use these ultrasonic dog repellers?

First of all, I would like to note that these devices are not a substitute for the right training. Dog repellers come in handy in case you’ve tried many options without results. Let’s look at the use of these products below.

Settings

These devices can have several functions. As I mentioned earlier, you can usually adjust the frequency and intensity. These are useful in different situations. Always start using low intensity and then try to increase it.

Stance

Most dog deterrents have a range of at least 20 feet. However, stand 6 to 10 feet away from the dog during use.

Training

When training, use the device together with the command words. This will make it easier for your puppy to understand these and will remember them in the future. Remember to also apply positive reinforcement when your pup is behaving well.
