Maybe you are in a hurry. If you want to know right away:

By the way, in the article, I put some useful tips and a buying guide. Check it out!

There is a unique feeling of owning a rabbit. I love them very much. But should we keep them outside or inside? If we want to keep them inside, what should we buy? What are the best indoor rabbit cages? Among other things, I write about this in my article. I have collected the best hutches and will also select my favorite.

Why you should buy an indoor rabbit cage?

indoor rabbit cage rabbit

Some people keep rabbits as indoor, some keep rabbits as outdoor. If you are the former, you should definitely buy a cage for your bunny. By the way, I support keeping rabbits indoors. Of course, there are very good outdoor solutions for the safe storage of rabbits.

On the other hand, keeping indoors minimizes the hazards. For example predators.

Rabbits love small nooks where they can hide. Of course, it’s good for them to let them roam the apartment sometimes. However, it is good for them to always have a place to return to.

If you leave home, a cage will also come in handy for your rabbits. This can avert any dangers while they are at home alone. After all, you wouldn’t leave your toddler home alone, would you?

Lastly, keep in mind that you can easily transport your rabbits with an indoor rabbit cage.

What to consider when choosing an indoor rabbit cage?

We first discussed why you need an indoor rabbit cage. Now let’s see what you should pay attention to when shopping.

Price

I usually leave this to the end, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to have a little variety in life.

Seriously, you know very well that quality has to be paid for. Of course, you don’t have to buy the most expensive product. For example, I am always looking for the best value for money. I also tried to collect these on the list in this article.

Overall quality

This can include several things. I now mean built quality, resistance, and comfort here. The flat bottom provides greater comfort.

Size

This is one of the most important considerations when choosing. Here are two things to consider. One is the size of your rabbit and how much space she needs. The other is how much space it will take up inside the house.

If you think about these two things, you’ll get a more accurate answer to how much cage your rabbit needs.

Design

This is not so important. However, if we are talking about an indoor cage. You may want to think about how well the product you choose will fit into the interior of your house and the furniture.

Material

A cage can be made of wood, plastic, and metal. In terms of bunny happiness, this question is almost irrelevant. However, make sure that if you choose a wood raw material, it should be treated. In addition, it should not be toxic. As you know, rabbits love to gnaw.

Durability

It mainly depends on the material. Metal cages last the longest. Of course, there may be quality differences here as well.

Reviews

You can be sure that the product you want to buy has already been bought by many. This means that there have probably been many reviews of it. Check out these reviews to make a wiser decision.

Other features to look for in an indoor rabbit cage

It is worth choosing a cage by considering the above. However, there are still some things that can be observed. Let’s see these.

Floor

Of these, two types are distinguished.

  • Cages with wire floor can be cleaned very well. The waste simply falls through the wire onto the tray placed at the bottom of the cage. This tray is easy to pull out and clean.

However, before you close this website and find the first wire-floor cage to buy, I have something to tell you. This solution is very convenient for you, but not for your bunny. Rabbits have very sensitive soles, so it is a torment for them to stand or sit on the wire floor all day. Therefore, if you choose such a product, make sure that at least part of it has a solid floor.

  • A cage with a solid floor may not be the most comfortable solution for you. However, your rabbit will prefer this. Anyway, if you litter-train your bunny, there will be a lot less mess. The video below can help with this.

Floor material

After the floor type, it is worth checking the floor bottom material of the rabbit cage. The solid floor can be made of three materials.

  • Wood: This is the most comfortable. However, it has a huge negative. Wood material can absorb moisture (not just water but also urine). This can be harmful to your rabbit and you.
  • Metal: It is virtually indestructible and hygienic. However, it can be very uncomfortable and because it is cold, it can even cause illness.
  • Plastic: This is the most popular version, which is no wonder. It is light, easy to clean, and stain-resistant. There is only one drawback. It can become brittle over time.

Whichever one you choose, pay attention to the painting. The outer cover should not contain any harmful substances that could harm the rabbits.

Style

  • One-story cages: These are the best-known types of rabbit cages. They are easy to clean and transport. Simple ones, on the other hand, usually contain some attachment or accessories.
  • Multi-story cages: As the name suggests, these cages have several levels. There is a ramp between the levels. This type is more popular among hamsters, guinea pigs, and other rodents. Yet, there are rabbits who also enjoy jumping between levels.

Access

Different cages have different doors. You may want to choose one that has a door on both the top and side. This way you can comfortably put food and drink in, or let your pet out.

Mobility

If it’s important for you to carry the cage back and forth in the house, choose one that has a wheel. And if it already has wheels, it needs to have a locking casters too.

Assembly

Most rabbit cages come in a way that needs to be assembled. Fortunately, there are hutches with no-tool assembly. You can save yourself a lot of nervousness if you choose one of these.

Other accessories

The included accessories are also very important. The most important is the water bottle. But different toys, bowls, shelves, and other bottles can be considered too.

Things to avoid when buying an indoor rabbit cage

Unauthorized sellers

This applies to all products by the way. If you shop offline, you can check out the cage and see if something is wrong with it. However, it is easy to be trapped when shopping online. Always buy online from an authorized seller.

Low quality

This is somewhat related to the previous point. However, you can also buy very poor quality products from authorized sellers. As I mentioned before, don’t look at the price tag. Poor quality will not be good for you or your rabbit.

Complex layout

There is no need for you to buy the most complex cage. The bunny won’t like it and even cleaning will be much harder.

My choices for the best indoor rabbit cages

Now that we’ve gone through what to look for when shopping, here’s my list. I think these are the best indoor rabbit cages:

Living World Deluxe Habitat

This sympathetic cage has all the essential features your rabbit needs for good habitat. Its design is also excellent.

That’s why this is one of my favorite rabbit cages.

The product is available in three sizes. Large is usually suitable for rabbits. But if you have an extra large bunny (over 12 lbs) then you can also choose the X-large size.

The material is not chewable and completely safe for rabbits. The bottom of the product is made of plastic. The upper part and the top is wire. This will provide adequate ventilation for your rabbit.

The product comes with some additional items:
Access ramp, tip-proof food dish, non-drip water bottle, and a hay guard. These are very sympathetic features.

There are also two openings on the cage. One on the top and the other at the front. This means extra accessibility.

The cage also has a spacious balcony. However, there is a hideaway space under the balcony. That is, the right space and safety for your rabbit are provided at the same time. The hay guard and water bottle are located outside the cage. That means even more space.

No tools are needed to assemble the cage. You can use it in a few minutes.

Pros

  • Cool design
  • Three sizes
  • Non-chewable
  • Ventilation
  • Accessibility
  • Spacious and safe

Cons

  • No warranty
  • Plastic bottom can be noisy

AmazonBasics Small Animal Cage Habitat With Accessories

AmazonBasics is a very common brand in the pet accessories market. And this is a very good product from them.

This cage is also available in three sizes.

All three are suitable for an average-sized rabbit. Obviously, if you have an extra large rabbit, consider the jumbo size.

The product comes with some additional items:

A tip-proof food dish, a non-drip water bottle, and a hay guard. So it doesn’t have most of the features, but it’s still compelling in terms of price.

In terms of material, this is similar to the previous one. The bottom part is made of plastic and the upper part is made of metal wire

The balcony and hideaway place also provide the right size space and hiding place for this product.

The same is true for accessibility and setup as for the previous product. It has a front and top opening and does not require tools for assembly.

The product comes with a one year warranty.

Pros

  • Non-chewable
  • Three sizes
  • Accessibility
  • Spacious and safe
  • Ventilation
  • One year warranty

Cons

  • Ramp is a little bit slippery
  • Plastic bottom can be noisy

Petsfit Wood Rabbit Cage

What I really like about this cage is that you can use it both indoors and outdoors if you want.

Anyway, I also like its design too.

This indoor rabbit cage is not very big, so you can easily find the right place for it in your house as well. However, it is large enough to accommodate up to two rabbits.

In terms of material, the product is made of cedarwood and iron wire. As I have already written, the design is very sympathetic and so is the color.

In terms of features, not much can be written about the product. The leak-proof tray is definitely worth mentioning.

There are two openings in the cage. One at the top and the other at the front. With a piston hinge, you can easily raise the roof part. This allows you to stay up that part while cleaning the cage inside.

One of the biggest disadvantages of the cage is that it is made of cedarwood. If there is enough food and other things available for your rabbit to chew, this should not be a huge problem. Softwoods, so, are a source of danger for rabbits.

The cage is very easy to assemble if you follow the instructions.

Pros

  • For indoor and outdoor use too
  • Large space for two rabbits
  • Leak-proof tray
  • 30-day refund
  • Easy to assemble
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Made of cedar wood

Prevue Pet Products 528 Universal Small Animal Home

This cage is a lightweight cool design product. It has good size for one rabbit, but only available in one size.

The bottom part and the floor are made of plastic. The rest is made of iron wire.

A large tubby base provides the exercise for your rabbit. The cage itself is well ventilated and receives an adequate amount of light.

Like the previous cages, this one has two openings. One at the top and the other is at the front. This also makes it easy to clean and insert food and drink.

Assembling is very easy and does not require any tools.

Pros

  • Tubby space
  • Two door opening
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to clean
  • Accessibility
  • Easy to assemble

Cons

  • Only for single rabbit

Kennel-Aire “A Frame Bunny House

Petmate is one of my favorite brands when it comes to pet-related products.

This one can also be a great choice. Many people don’t like the look of this cage at first glance. However, its quality is unquestionable.

It is suitable for a single rabbit based on its size. The whole product is made of strong wire. A pull-out plastic tray at the bottom helps make cleaning convenient.

It has two openings. One at the front and one at the top. This way you can easily put in the food for your bunny.

I like the mobility of the product. Thanks to the heavy-duty caster wheels, you can easily move the cage from one room to another.

Assembly is easy. You don’t need any tools.

Pros

  • Sturdy and durable
  • Accessible
  • Easy to clean
  • Heavy-duty caster wheels

Cons

  • The wire-floor is not comfortable for rabbits.
  • Only suitable for a single rabbit

Midwest Deluxe Critter Nation

If you want a well-customizable cage for your rabbit, you might want to consider this product.

Plus, it’s available in single-story and two-story modes.

It is made of sturdy iron wire and has a plastic pan at the bottom. In addition, the product also has an adjustable shelf, a ramp with cover, maneuverable stand, and locking wheel casters. So there are quite a few features to the product.

The price is quite high but besides the features mentioned above, even its size is quite large. It is suitable for keeping more than one rabbit.

In addition to the usual double-door design, the removable shelf also helps accessibility. The bottom pan is leak-proof. It is also easy to clean.

Pros

  • Dual locking door
  • Spacious
  • Great features
  • Customizable
  • Locking wheel casters
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Some complaint about the difficult assembly

MidWest Homes for Pets Wabbitat Deluxe Rabbit Home Kit

MidWest is an increasingly well-known brand.

Now it also turned out to me that his rabbit cages are also very good. It provides spacious living space for the bunny.

I also like the price of this product. Although it’s ideal for one single rabbit alone, extensions can be added. These are the hutch extension and the wire extension. But you can also buy it in XL size if the basic version proves to be small.

The material is the standard wire upper part and the plastic bottom. This cage is also a good choice if you want some extra items. It comes with a hay feeder, water bottle, feeding bowl, and an elevated feeding area

Assembly is easy, no tools required. What’s very positive is that you get a one-year manufacturer’s warranty on it.

The cage has no wheels, so there is a more favorable product in terms of mobility. However, it is not so heavy, it will not be too much trouble to carry.

There are some complaints about the weak wire case

Pros

  • Spacious
  • Durable
  • Large opening
  • Easy to clean
  • Easy to assemble
  • Option for extensions

Cons

  • No wheels
  • The wire case is a little bit weak

Midwest Wabbitat Folding Rabbit Cage

Large durable and affordable? This cage is characterized by all three properties.

This is another MidWest product and I didn’t accidentally put it on the list.

It is large enough, it accommodates up to two rabbits. The whole case made of case wire, but you’ll find a plastic pan at the bottom.

Unfortunately, this design (due to the wire bottom) is uncomfortable for rabbits in the long run. In return, your rabbit’s feet will stay cleaner and drier.

There are no wheels in the cage. However, replacement parts can be easily purchased for it. Due to the top and side opening, cleaning is very easy. If you follow the instructions, the assembly should not be a problem either.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Durable
  • Spacious
  • Easy to assemble

Cons

  • Wire bottom is uncomfortable for rabbits
  • No warranty
  • No wheels

Yaheetech 37/52-inch Metal Cage

Well, with this cage, you can’t say that more than one rabbit can’t fit in.

The other positive thing is that it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

The product is quite large and heavy compared to other cages. On the other hand, it has wheels, which makes movement much easier.

With the exception of the bottom plastic pan, the entire cage is made of metal. However, in addition to the wire parts, there are also sturdy tube parts. The whole cage is very massive and durable from this.

The cage not only is large in size but also provides more space for rabbits due to the ramps and tiers in it. The three doors with latches are not only safe but allow for easy cleaning.

Pros

  • Durable
  • Spacious
  • Plus tiers and ramps
  • Wheels
  • Water bottle and bowl
  • Safe and secure

Cons

  • Assembly is not easy
  • Pricey (anyway, considering its size it’s affordable)

Krolik XXL Rabbit Cage

The last member of my list is a Krolik product. This is a well organized, large crate for multiple rabbits.

It is perfect for up to two rabbits (or maybe more).

As you would expect from my list, this product is also a combination of wire and plastic pan. In terms of equipment, it can be seen that this cage was really made for two rabbits.

It comes with two water bottles, two hay feeders, a feeding bowl, and elevated feeding. In addition, although there is already enough space for two rabbits, wire extensions are included.

The Krolik cage has no wheels, but the one-year warranty compensates for this. Due to the multiple doors, cleaning is easy.

Pros

  • Great for multiple rabbits
  • Additional accessories
  • Removable pan
  • One-year warranty

Cons

  • No wheels
  • Extension part is difficult to clean

My pick

I can’t say the decision was very simple. After all, I found something positive in every product. But the most convincing for me is the Living World Deluxe Habitat. The one regret is that it doesn’t come with a warranty. However, the product is so good quality that I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary.

Frequently asked questions about indoor rabbit cages

What should I place in the cage?

Of course, you don’t have to overcomplicate things. It all depends on individual decisions. Of course, there are basic things you should definitely put in a cage. Examples are a water bottle, a food bottle, rabbit food, and rabbit bedding

Is it really better to keep rabbits indoors than outdoors?

I have already written a few sentences in this article about the benefits of indoor keeping. In addition to safety, it has other benefits. Keep in mind that this could make your relationship with your bunny much more direct and friendly.

How hard is it to clean these cages?

If you choose a product that has a removable tray at the bottom, it won’t be difficult to clean. Of course, even in this case, take the time and don’t rush.
